In Eastern Europe, the default type of humour is that of the dark variety. This may become evident, once you consider the deeply troubled history of said corner of Europe. Whenever something bad happened, people would always laugh. Not because it was necessarily funny, but because the alternative was unacceptable.
The ability to pay attention is a superpower; however, this was not always the case. I recall growing up in rural Romania in the 90s. Looking back, my upbringing was drastically different from that of kids growing up today.
